From the whole session to one contract
- 01
Rank the session
Rank Contracts re-ranks the complete regular session each time you sort or filter, so the list is never a reshuffled scrap. Summary cards name the standout contracts by directional pressure, impact, turnover and open-interest change. A minimum liquidity bar keeps near-zero contracts from leading those cards, and each card shows how many it excluded.
- 02
Filter the tape
Hand a contract to Option Trades, or scan every symbol at once. Live streams prints during U.S. market hours. Historical holds past days, with date and time ranges. Both share one set of filters, which you can save as a named view and scope to a watchlist.

Check what the print did
A row is a clue, not a position. Does side lean one way, is premium meaningful for that symbol, is Vol/OI unusually high, is there an event, and did open interest rise the next morning?
What you can filter on
- Asset type
- Stock, ETF or index
- Type
- Calls, puts or both
- Side estimate
- Where the print sat against the spread, from below bid to above ask
- Estimated initiator
- Buyer, seller or unresolved
- Moneyness
- In, at or out of the money
- Sentiment
- Bullish, bearish or neutral, derived from type and side
- Size
- A minimum premium, so only meaningful dollars remain
- Freshness
- A minimum Vol/OI, for volume far above what was already open

One contract, checked
SPY $655 Put, expiring Mar 19, 2027
- Volume, Oct 6
- 101,845 contracts
- $62.4M in premium: the headline, which says nothing about direction.
- Vol/OI
- 41×
- Only 2,455 contracts were open going in, so this was not normal turnover.
- Side
- 98.2% at the mid
- Ask 1,806, mid 100,030, bid 9. Side alone cannot say who was aggressive.
- Open interest, Oct 7
- 103,995
- Up 101,540 overnight: nearly all of the volume opened positions.
A scanner found the contract. The next morning’s open interest settled what the volume did, and the tape still cannot say who holds those positions or why.

Frequently asked questions
- What is an options flow scanner?
- A tool that narrows the session’s options prints to a shortlist you can inspect, using size, side, Vol/OI and other filters. In TradingFlow, Rank builds the shortlist and Option Trades is the filtered tape behind it.
- Is there a free options flow scanner?
- TradingFlow has no free tier for the scanner: Rank paging, filters and the tape need trial or paid access. Eligible new accounts get seven days of Premium with no credit card. After that, Premium is billed $69/month, billed $177/quarter or billed $588/year.
- Is the flow real time?
- Option Trades Live updates continuously during U.S. market hours for entitled users, and shows the latest snapshot when the market is closed. Rank reads the complete regular session and labels its intraday flow as delayed; its automatic updates are paid and run on the latest session during market hours.
- Does the scanner tell me what to trade?
- No. It shows what printed and estimates the side, and it cannot place orders. Side, sentiment and initiator are inferences from where a print sat against the quote, so check them against open interest and events. This is research, not investment advice.
- Can an AI agent read the scanner?
- Yes. TradingFlow’s MCP server gives Claude and other clients read-only access to contract rank and option trades, and it cannot place orders. Setup for each client: https://app.tradingflow.com/docs/mcp
